Otter Tail County 2021

The mission of the 2021 Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener is to highlight Otter Tail County’s numerous lakes, the diverse outdoor recreation opportunities and welcoming communities while strictly adhering to MDH & CDC guidelines.

The Evolution of the MN GFO – The Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener has been a tradition since 1948. The 2020 event was canceled because of COVID-19. Otter Tail County is happy to announce that the tradition will continue in 2021. The 73rd edition of the event will be different, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be better. The local planning committee has been working hard  to “pandemic proof” the event. There is a Plan A which will give media outlets access to a robust library of video and photo assets they can use to tell the story of The Opener. Video conferencing and live video feeds on social media will enhance the public’s access to the event and create efficiencies, all while following MDH & CDC guidelines.

Find Your Inner Otter Safely – COVID-19 changed the way we go about our daily lives. The good news is many folks discovered or re-discovered the outdoors as a form of recreation. Otter Tail County is the perfect place to explore all Minnesota has to offer while being able to spread your wings and maintain good social distance.
